I’m proud to announce I finished #9 on the overall leaderboard of the Broadjam Six Pack Contest. This is a contest for songwriters and is judged by your peers.

The contest is based on six themes and my song “Run” came in at #4 in the Lubed Up category for best overall song, while “Places To Hide” came in at #6 in the Two-Timer category for best song with two time signatures.

Some cool prizes including some awesome new hardware and software for the studio courtesy of the sponsors will be fun but the kudos of being recognised by my peers as a good songwriter really means a lot.

The artwork for my album Mythology & Rumour has been finalised. Yay! You like?

A massive thank you to legendary designer Jay Dillon for coming through with the goods and giving the record something i could never have imagined (an Octopus ?!? - wtf?)

No seriously. That lonely, independent animal floating in the great green yonder is how I feel most days so i reckon Jay nailed it.

There are only 100 promotional copies being made at this stage so more news will follow about how, where and if the record will be available for sale.

Legendary producer and writer Charles Foskett discovered my album on MySpace and approached me to represent my album at the MIDEM music conference in 2010.

MIDEM takes place in Cannes at the end of January and is a music conference and networking event that attracts the biggest names in the music business from all over the world. I am delighted that Charles has decided to include my record on his roster and I’m looking forward to seeing what interest there is around my music.

Charles has an impressive CV which includes working with Elvis Costello and Ringo Starr among others.

As an experiment, I posted a message on my Facebook Fan Page and my Twitter account to see how quickly I could get added to general rotation on Jango Internet Radio.

It took about four days of voting and “thumbs up” to get me added to general rotation.

Awesome.

But what was really interesting is that most of the people who voted for me were from the other side of the world and I’d never heard of them. They certainly were not friends and family.

This was a great experiment and further vindicated my decision to spread my music virally online rather that trying to build a following through gigs and independent distribution of CD’s into small retailers.

I reckon this internet thing is here to stay.

After many moons of procrastination, self-doubt, re-writes and bail-outs, I’ve finally finished my debut full length record. It’s called Mythology & Rumour. I’m not making CD’s (apart from a few promotional copies) because I can’t justify the carbon footprint. And frankly, most people I know are dumping their CD’s to make room on the bookshelf. I probably won’t be doing any grand tours to promote it, but I may turn up at the occasional live music venue and do some acoustic shows.

There’s no band, it’s just me. I played and produced most of the record myself. Peter Farnan produced 3 tracks (Run, Can’t Let You Go and Asleep), played some bass, electric guitar and sang some backing vocals on these tracks. He also wrote and played a bunch of keyboard parts. But above all, Peter Farnan gave me the confidence to make this record in the first place and helped me discover myself as an artist as much as I could. I feel like the finished product does not so him justice.

Piet Collins played drums on the same aforementioned three tracks and they sound awesome. Doug Roberts did a great job recording them.

Bart Bee played bass on Coming Home, Make Up Your Mind and She’s So Cool. He also did pre-production on Mythology & Rumour, She’s So Cool and Places To Hide. He wrote the bass lines on Mythology & Rumour and Places To Hide but I played them because I love thumbing my way around a bass guitar and pretending I’m really good at it.

Darren Danielson played drums on Coming Home. Zoran Romic played lead guitar on Coming Home and Places To Hide. Both these boys helped me in countless ways over the last five years that go beyond what I can possibly mention here. Minnie Wood sang on Places To Hide. I played everything else because I’m a control freak.

Sam Lowe recorded and mixed most of the record apart from the drums on Run, Can’t Let You Go and Asleep which Doug Roberts recorded, and some bass lines, guitars and keyboard bits on these same tracks that were done at Peter Farnan’s house. I recorded the acoustic guitars, backing vocals and some lead vocals at home. Steve Smart put up with my princess attitude and self deprecation as he mastered the record at 301 and sprinkled his magic dust over it.
