Ever wonder why the ads you see on Facebook are closely related to your interests in real life? Well that's no accident. Watch the video to learn more.[responsive_vid]
The ads Facebook serves up are based on the information you've shared in your profile. Login to Facebook and click on “edit my profile” to see the kind of information you've shared under activities and interests, sports, hobbies, recreation, favourite films, books, etc. This information is then used to serve up relevant ads just for you.
The reason I like this is two-fold:
- It allows marketers to communicate with a targeted audience, so their message is consumed by people who are highly likely to be interested in it,
- It's pleasant for users because it doesn't clutter your Facebook experience with crap you're not interested in.
If the user experience of a web app is pleasant and useful, users will continue to engage, propelling the internet as a communications platform forward and helping it evolve.
Facebook makes advertising highly targeted for marketers and highly relevant for users.
