Google have launched their latest innovation to help you get higher quality search results. It's called the +1 button and it allows you to give a vote of confidence to any website that has it. By clicking on the +1 button on a website you are publicly letting your friends within your social network know that you think this website is useful and of good value. When your friends see that website in a search result they will also see that you +1'd it. This gives your friend a clue as to whether or not that website is worth the visit.
The Google +1 button is currently only available for searches in English at http://google.com but we expect it to become global in the near future. It won't be visible to users on mobile devices in the search results at this stage but mobile users can still see the button on websites and cast their vote.
The friends who will see your +1's are those in your Gmail contacts list, who you are connected to via Google reader or Google buzz. It is also possible to connect to other social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to your Google account. More information on how to do this can be found at http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/answer.py?answer=1142745
